Tapajós National Forest Kayak Touring
This is a 4 days tour designed especially for kayak touring. Kayaking allows you to explore friendly one of the most beautiful river east of the Amazon. This way you reach protected areas without disturbing our mother nature. You will be in contact with communities that live in protected areas of the Amazon forest. Our guides are as capable in the kitchen as they are in a kayak, preparing tasty food daily as we paddle from one outstanding camp to the next. All paddling equipment is provided, and no previous experience is necessary.
Itinerary
1st Day – Santarém / Alter do Chão
Arrive in Santarém and transfer to the hotel in Alter do Chão. Free day for optional activities. In the evening, meeting in the foyer of the hotel in preparations for the start of the journey.
2nd Day – Tapajós National Forest
After breakfast, kayaks departure towards Tapajos National Park traveling along Green Lake. Green Lake is a place of great natural beauty, where the Indians Borari, former inhabitants of the region, withdrew stones for the construction of muiraquitã, a luck amulet in the shape of a frog. If weather permits, a wind kayak sail kit is used to speed kayak movement. Lunch in a small restaurant in Belterra Town, however a long the way stops for snacks. More paddling after lunch, through endless river of beaches with white sand surrounded by forest until the community Maguari, located in the Tapajos National Forest. This community economy is based on the sustainable use of natural resources of forest, specialy in the production of handbags and other craft products mades of latex - the "leather plant" extracted from the rubber trees, where overnight stay in tents or rustic accommodations. Dinner with the community.
3rd Day – Tapajós National Forest
After continental breakfast, a hike through the Amazon forest towards Jamaraquá community where there are many impressive trees with high medicinal value and food for local communities, as Piquiá and the giant Sumaúma. On the way stop for snorkeling in igarapé of Jamaraquá, a natural aquarium full of fish and decorated with a garden submerged. Lunch in a native family house, before return to the kayaks. In the afternoon, padding along the Tapajos River towards a sandbank located in the middle of the river closer to Acaratinga community for an overnight camp. If the weather allows, you will see a gorgeous sunset in one of the most beautiful place along this journey.
4th Day – Alter do Chão / Departure
After breakfast, return by boat to Alter do Chão. You stay at the hotel or explore the region on your own, until transfer to the airport.
5th Day – Departure
Transfer to the airport. This day is reserved for connection flights.

The itinerary above is accurate. However, it can be different from some of material previously printed because we are constantly adjusting our trips to better server our clients. These changes are based on customer suggestions or researches. Therefore, our tour guide will keep you informed of any changes that might occur during the first meeting previous departure.
Any additional changes on transportation or lodging will not be covered by Rumo Norte Expeditions. In addition, any service or activities not used will not be refunded because we pay our providers ahead of time.

Airport/Hotel/Airport transfer in Santarém; 02 nights lodging at Belo Alter Hotel, in Alter do Chão, with air conditioning, private bathroom and meals as indicated, breakfast included; 02 nights camping accomodations for two, with all meals included (breakfast, lunch and dinner); Professional instruction and guiding in English; All tours as indicated; Tandem kayaks w/ rudders (more stable & easier to paddle); all kayaking and snorkeling equipment are provided. Single kayak must be requested in advance. If you decide not to do one of the activities includes in this itinerary, the value will not be reimbursed.
Not included
Transportation from your origin to Santarém (request aditional price for tickets not included); Personal expenses such as: beverages, phone calls etc; Meals during staying in the hotel; Travel insurance and any other service and activity not mention above are at additional cost. Ask for a list of optional activities and services available for this trip.
Transportation
Transfers and trips on land use private 4x4 wheel cars, vans or mini vans. It depends on the size of the group.
Money to spend
Personal expenses: It is recommended that you bring money with you. You will only have a chance to get cash at ATMs in Santarém city, 30 km of Alter do Chão. Credit cards only at the hotel and some restaurants. However, avoid bringing to much money during your trip.
Budget: breakfast is included. Only in the city save R$ 25 to R$ 45 for meals not included and R$ 5 to R$ 15 for beverages.
Climate
From January to June is the rain season and from July to December is the dry season, our Amazonian summer. From September to December the beaches arise in the riverbed and the rain flow is lesser.
What to bring
We recommend you to bring a small backpack, to take your water and small equipments; raincover, hat or cap, eyeglasses of sun, light clothes, sandals for water sports, a comfortable tennis for hiking; sun screen; insect repellent; your habitual medicines; plastic bag or waterproof package to put in your documents, papers, camera and binoculars; water bottle or any other water system filter and your favorite snack. Even though we give some suggestion, we encourage you to bring only things you can carry.

Yellow fever vaccine is recommended, 10 days before embark to Amazon.
Single Travelers: Please be advised that single accommodations may be unavailable or a limited number of spaces for single travelers.

(3) This is an authentic kayaking adventure tour with accommodations in tents or local communities. Only two nights lodged in a Hotel.
Physical strength
(3) Moderate. This trip is for people in good shape. Our kayaking trips don´t have long paddling routes; however our travelers need to be able to arrive and departure in infrastructure not well developed.
Cultural impact
(3) This trip emphasizes the natural and cultural aspects. Time to swim, relax, and explore the surroundings on foot. You will be dealing directly with the natives of the region.
Rates
$1,057 per person in double accomodations; or
$1,290 per person in individual accomodations.
